My DPMS 16" bbl AR broke the bolt in two yesterday. Split on bith sides of the hole for the bolt cam pin. Has anyone had this happen or heard of this happening before? Rifle has bout 2000 rds through it right now.

Fired about 200 rds the day before. Next day got through about 50+ rds when this happened. The rounds that fired all had intact cases and didnt appear to be a hot load or faluty ammo.

I'd go spend the money on a Bravo Company or Spikes Tactical bolt at this point.. is the carrier messed up as well?

Carrier is fine nothing else looks out of place or damaged.

Thanks for the info.

DPMS will exchange your defective bolt (was improperly heat treated) for a new correct treated bolt no questions asked (read does happen from time to time with all of the manufacturers),

No need to spend money since it will be replaced for free since it was defective from the start.

Always has more Drama if the Mfg. is not contacted first.

Even Colt and FNMI bolts break, just not at 200 rds. Definitely let DPMS replace their defective bolt.

Even the bolts produced by the "perfect", "infallible" manufacturer break like this.  This is a Colt bolt from an M231 FPW that broke at about 1000 rounds.  Marked MP as well.

Think I covered this before, but MP testing will not tell you if the bolt was heat treated incorrectly (too brittle), MP will only tell you if the metal has a crack in it.

And if you actually read the OP, you learn that the rifle actually has about 2000 rounds on it.  Still appears to be a low round count for a 'normal wear and tear' issue, but ten times the number you quoted.

Wear at the bolt lugs to the point that max or more head space is achieved, wear/pitting at the face of the bolt to the point that it's time to call the bolt toast, totally normal over the life of a bolt.

A lug shearing off or the bolt cracking, not normal for the life of the bolt.
And if such happens, then it was defective from the start, period with no questions asked for replacement by the manufacture.
