many many years ago I built an AR out of all M-16 parts (on an AR-15 LR), For a few years it worked fine. Then I started to notice that if a round had been chambered for a while, the round would not fire. I could take that round out, put it right back in and it would fire fine.
A round sitting in the weapon for a bit, like 10-15 minutes just wouldn't fire (minor impression of the firing pin on the primer though). Everything was cleaned and recleaned and rechecked. A self proclaimed expert looked at it and had no clue. Does this sound like anything you folks have run into? |

Out the gate, please tell me that you semi auto converted the FCG first. If you have to ask what mods are needed, then I can do a write up for such, but in the mean time, pull the FCG until you do the mods.
As for the problem, either the bolt is semi unlocking, causing the back of the carrier to block the FP full protrusion at hammer strike, Or you need to pull the hammer and confirm that it's both rotating on the trigger pin cleanly, the J spring in the hammer is not protruding out the bottom of the hammer and making contact with the front of the receiver void, the width of the hammer side tabs is not too great that the side tabs are binding on the side of the receiver, of the trigger can not be pulled far enough back to prevent the trigger front sear from making contact to the bottom of the hammer lob as the hammer moves to the unfired position. Note: the hammer bottom lob is designed so when the hammer is uncocked, it moves the trigger to a slightly pulled position when released, preventing the selector from cam'g to the safe position. With the trigger fully pulled, the front of the trigger sear to the hammer lob should not make contact (read should be able to hold the trigger back and work the hammer from uncocked to cock (short of the disco catching it) without out any binding. Also, confirm that the hammer springs are on top of the trigger pin, and not sitting on the bottom of the receiver void. |

Quoted:
impression of the firing pin on the primer though). ? all rounds chambered into an AR will have an impression. its the free floating firing pin going forward when the bolt closes. when you say wont fire do you mean click no fire or the hammer wont go forward no fire. |
