Hey everyone I just built my first AR specs below. I am having issues and not sure if this is normal, whenever I try to insert a mag into the lower with a closed bolt it take a hard slam to get it locked in. Is this normal or bad juju to insert a mag with a closed bolt?

M&P Lower
Delt Ton Upper & barrel
RRA BCG & CH

You should be able to insert a mag with the bolt closer or open .

Is it more difficult closed than open ?

With ammo in the mag or empty ?

God bless

30 rounds in your mag? Download to 28.

Why are you trying load with a closed bolt?

Sort of normal.

Thats where 'Load to 28" came from.  In some cases, it's what is required.

I don't have that problem since I switched to P-Mags.

If a new mag that will accept 30 and 1/2 rounds, it's normal to have to have to palm slap the mag into place on a locked bolt.

In time when the mag and mag spring do break in, it will be easier to insert the mag, but a good palm slap on all mags will insert that they are seated.

On the other hand, even if you have a 30 round body, and have of the longer an anti tilt follower in the body, the follower alone could be taking up the room needed for the 30 round to compress down in the mag for the extra needed half round to allow the mag to be used with 30 rounds and be inserted into the well with a lock bolt.

Really, load 30 rounds in the mag and see how far down you can push the top round.  If there is no more room left in the mag (read 30th round struggle alone to get into the mag), then best to down load the mag a round to allow the needed ammo stack compression room when it's loaded against a lock bolt.

I dont see a problem with that as long as it locks in. If you press the mag release and it doesnt drop free would concern me a bit..
