My PD has several Rock River Arms AR's and the problem is that the castle nut will not budge. We have broken three wrenches, and no success. We applied heat, no go. How much heat is required? We were told that RR puts red locktite on the castle nut. HELP! We need a solution.

Did you try dunking in boiling some water.  Surefire uses red loctite on there products and several folks at Candle Power forums boil there lights in a plastic bag to break the loctite down so they can mod the flashlights.

We heated it with torch for 15 seconds, never budged. Finally broke castle nut. We could not find red locktite, however there was something on a few of the threads, but not red in color.

Why do you need to remove the castle nut?

It was probably too much blue locktite.

I ended up hing to destroy my commerical buffer tube to get it out when I had a hell of a time getting it off.

They ( the Police Dept.) wants to put a plate on that has sling loops. I've been working on AR 15's for 20 + yrs. and I have never seen this problem on any manufacturer of an AR. Why anyone would locktite, stake etc. is beyond me. Torque the castle nut properly and it won't back off. I have sent an e-mail to Rock River to see what the problem is or why or what they do. I am not just talking a little torque to remove the castle nut, I'm talking to the extreme. If they think they need locktite, they should have used the blue at the most.
