It's been a while since I've been inside my bolt. I am replacing the extractor spring and wanted to know on which end the rubber bumper/pad goes. Is it placed in the pocket of the extractor itself, or on the bolt? Thanks for refresning me!

Insert goes into the center of the spring, and then the large coil side gets pressed into the extractor.  The insert just keeps the spring from collapsing sideways.

If you have an Extra O-ring or D-fender, then that would go around the spring before the extractor is reinstalled the bolt.

Funny thing is, the Wolff spring is difficult at best to tell which end is bigger or flared.

Lay it on a flat surface and roll it. Flared end opposite of the direction the spring rolls.
