I just finished building my first AR-15, and everything seems to be in working order, except that the magazine will not lock in. What could be wrong, and what should I do?

is the mag empty or full? Seems dumb but somehow last week I tried to put a loaded mag in and it would not go.. I removed one round from the mag and it locked in..

It sounds like you need to push in the mag release button into the lower as much as you can and then give the actual catch on the opposite side another 360 degree rotation.
This will give more purchase on the mag.
