| Couldn't get any bites on this in the general discussion. I guess there is no interest if your not talking about a crazy new optic thats due to come out in two years or dropping crazy money on tacticool stuff! My question is can I adjust my gas block myself and what tools does it take. I have a S&W MP15 and the gas block is canted slightly of center, Aprox 1/8". Thanks for the help, Justin |

With gas blocks, there is the option of slightly canting them off index with the barrel gas port, and not having any problems with short stroking (gas block passage is much bigger than the barrel gas port)..
Really, out the gate, remove the allen screws on the gas block (may need to break the loctite bond with heat first), and pull the gas block forward on the barrel. Take a good look at the center of the barrel gas port verses the center rail of the upper receiver. If they are close, then just reinstall the gas block slightly off index of the barrel gas port (but in line with the upper receiver) to the correct index of the block to the upper receiver. If the gas block is not even close to center/top of the upper receveiver rail indexing, then the barrel will first need to be reinstalled to correct this problem (get the barrel gas port TDC), then the gas block can be installed as stated above to clean up mis sighting indexing. |
| Thanks Dano523 for the info. The gas block is maybe canted 1/8" to the right. I also noticed that the flash hider is slightly canted in the same direction slightly of center. I'm thinking maybe the barrel is not screwed in all the way. I don't know. I think I may just take it to the shop I purchased it from and have them look at it. I'm going to check the gas block per your instructions though. Thanks, Justin |

Yes, take it to the shop and have them take a look at it.
Regarding the barrel, it does not screw onto the upper receiver. It's the barrel extension cup section which slips into the upper barrel socket, and these too pieces are friction help in place via the tension of the barrel nut. So yes, it is possible that the barrel slipped in the upper receiver when the barrel nut was tightened, and now the FSB is off index with the upper receiver center line. Also, since the barrel extension and barrel are one peice, and the upper receiver another, if a barrel does slip, head spacing on the barrel will not be effected.
