Hey guys,

I have a GSE M-4 match. I just replaced the gas rings, extractor, ex pin, and all parts to the bolt and still have stove piping going on. I use quality ammo and p-mags. Can anyone suggest the next thing to check? Different bolt / carrier?

Thanks,  Tim

Does the rifle pass the short stroke test?

Where can I find the procedure for the short-stroke test??? What do the results (fail) mean?

THANK YOU!!!

a failure means the rifle isn't getting enough gas to fully cycle the bolt carrier assembly.

Thanks for taking the time to write such a thorough checklist, Tweak. I am wondering if this site has a detailed list of component names? I am not familiar with many of the terms or names for the parts, but am very familiar with my rifle. I will follow the checklist. I really want to stop the stove piping issues. This rifle should be more reliable.

Thanks again,  Tim

are you using the right term STOVE PIPEING?, because to me stove pipeing is a elongated case after fireing, realy streached out. might be i'm wrong.

A stove pipe is malfunction when a case dosent fully eject and is partially hanging out of the ejection port with the bolt closed on it so that it looks like you have a pipe or "stove pipe" sticking out of your rifle. A common malfunction with handguns that might be sensitive to limp wristing.

Tim,
There's prolly one around here and the TM has a couple of good pics too. I see that the pic links here are busted so I'm working on getting those back up. The -10 manual is online here somewhere, DL that and it'll give you a pretty good backgroud.

jimr,
Stove piping is the graphic term for a failure to eject (FtEj).

The -10 and -23 both can be found on the start up page (www.ar15.com), bottom left under manuals.
