Have two of these - both are so far worthless. They rarely function because they almost inevitably though the spent case upward between the charging handle and bolt carrier. Have tried every form of 22 ammo possible. Have considered the magazine with upward pressure from the next round, the extractor/ejector - nothing works. Tried calling Ciener but the guy in charge there is the worst dude I've ever tried to deal with - a really bad attitude for a salesperson. Other calls there just get "we're busy working on..." - they never call back.
Anyone have one of these units that actually work???? Have tried both of them in 4 different AR without success. |

Factory mags and all the different types of ammo available - Rem Win Fed CCI Am Eagle and both standard/Hi vel AWA solids and HP. Seems to roll home smoothly. Can't feel/hear a difference if and when it ever actually cycles correctly - a very rare occurrence - versus screwing up.
Will try the step by step cycling and see where it hangs. Almost always the empty is stuck between the top of the bolt and chamber as if on its way out or if not there then up in the charging handle/gas rod area. The new round chambers but the bolt is open because of the hung case. Both units do the same thing. Have tried oiling them well/less well, working on the extractor face, making sure the extractor groove was clear so the extractor could fully engage. Is amazing that over the 2-3 years I've tried to talk with Cieners that they're "out working on new units". Can't believe the price of these things now based on how well mine work. They obviously can't be accurate because of the difference in bullet diameter - usually get about 1 1/2 inches at 25 yards where one would expect almost hole in hole. Been waiting for BM to bring out their dedicated 22 upper since I can't find a CZ - don't know how well they work anyway. Enjoy the AR platform but also really enjoy the cost of 22. Thanks for the input - will let you know how it goes. |

Yes, have made them work, but it takes polishing the units so it glides freely on the rails, and even having to tweak/replace some of the springs in the rifle so the unit does cycle correctly.
Right now, guessing that the unit is binding, and some of the spring are too strong to cycle correctly with the ammo your running. |

Just reworked both units - tried to find binding sites, etc. Tried the load and fire without the mags and function was better though not flawless. Found some rough spots - filed those. Smoothed rough spots on the mags. Rounded the ejection port area rail. CLP'd everything well.
Overall both are working much better. Almost seems like the recoil spring is too much for the average 22LR Hi Vel. Often when the case fails to eject, the next round is in battery but the hammer isn't cocked suggesting inadequate bolt blow back. Question would be to cut on the recoil spring a little but not too much to beat the unit up - could conceive of a rubber like buffer at the back of the unit. Of course still needs adequate spring for return to battery. |

Polish all the parts that rub until they gleam (don't worry about the mag feed lips though),
Then start playing with the spring kit, including using the lighter disco and hammer spring off the bat. Leaving the hammer and disco spring over tensioned (223 strength'd), and going after the recoil spring alone will end up with feeding problems. http://www.lakesideguns.com/title1/spring.html Also another trick if needed to either install a heaver buffer spring or spacer behind the buffer. The kit has it's own recoil assembly, and you don want any reward momentum of the kit lost by the buffer/buffer spring compressing as well. P.S. Although you don't need it on a semi kit, adding in the anti bounce ball/spring does help out as well. It keeps the bolt locked up a bit longer, and allows you to reduce the spring tensions as well. |
