Yeah, I had the same problem with the stripped set screw and setting up for RIBZ.
You'll have to remove the rear sight to fix it. You can also reindex the sight and get the IBSZ/RIBZ set correctly at this time. Note: Do this in an area where you can find dropped things :^) There are some small parts (balls, springs) that you need to be careful of when you do this. Also, the rear sight spring is under considerable pressure, and only held in by the sight retaining pin. Basically, you're drifting the sight retaining pin (watch out for the spring!), unscrewing the rear sight (watch out for the ball/spring on the left of the sight), removing the index wheel, reindexing the wheel (or replacing the index pin), then putting everything back together. It's a 10 minute job, if you don't lose anything. Some things to know: Brownells has the rear sight parts you'll need (index pin) to fix this for real. Once you get the sight removed, you can use pliers or vice grips to remove the index pin. Raise the sight as high as you can, then down one click, before you drift the sight retaining pin. If you want to set up for IBSZ/RIBZ, you can do this without touching the fubar'd index pin. Simply separate the two halves of the sight index and reposition. You can test fit to see if you positioned it correctly for the IBSZ/RIBZ. Be careful, when replacing the rear sight retaining pin, to get the spring completely above the pin - do NOT drive the pin through the spring, or you'll have to try again. Good luck! |
