I have an Armalite AR10 lower and I installed the AR10 parts kit with the 2 stage tactical trigger last night. The disconnector came already assembled on the trigger. Everything works fine except the trigger. I put the trigger pin in and it has tension and the trigger pulls. When I put the hammer and hammer pin in its like the safety doesn't want to turn and the trigger bottoms out. The hammer also doesn't lock when depressed into the firing position.

I used the step by step guide in the AR Discussions forum. I'm not sure what I did wrong. I'm somewhat confused at what I did wrong. I had a local gun shop put together my last stripped lower and they charged 87 bucks. I have 3 more to do and he wants the same price even to see what I did wrong on this one.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I just tried again. Removed the grip, safety selector and everything. Put in the trigger, put in the hammer, reinistalled everthing. I tested it and the hammer locks and the safety works. When you flip to fire it almost seems like you have to pull too hard to get it to fire. Its like it has over travel or something like it has to go to far to fire. Its the Armalite 2 stage tactical. Does the trigger just need adjusted now?

Thanks for any help.

Are you sure that this is not the problem,

http://www.armalite.com/ItemForm.aspx?item=10309000&Category=dfc0f777-5c39-4edf-bb6b-90009c5adc2c

*Earlier version AR-10 bolt carriers will require narrowing of 2 stage hammer.

I don't have an upper with bolt carrier installed while doing the function check. Would that make a difference. I don't have the upper yet. If it were a bolt carrier issue wouldn't it only function improperly with an upper and bolt installed?

I'm really not sure. What would I do if that were the problem?

I took it by the local gunsmith today and he said he couldn't have done it better himself. It still doesn't feel right to me. I am using my Colt M4 as a comparison. The trigger is much more crisp on the colt and has a definite break. If you squeeze the Armalite trigger slow sometimes the hammer doesn't even fall.

Who knows :(

If you have the first stage creep, then hit the second stage tension increase point, how much trigger over travel do you have at this point.

Right after you hit/feel the tension wall, the hammer should be release on the slightest of more pull, and then still have about 1/8" more trigger travel afterwards.  If you are hitting the wall, then have no trigger movement left (without pulling really hard or fast), the combo needs to go back to Armalite for correction.

Could be the receiver out of spec, or just the trigger over creep after hammer release needs to be increased.

How does it work without the safety installed? As states the above post you need a little more travel in the trigger.
It is a simple matter of taking a little off of the flat on the back of the trigger that contacts the safety, or if you
would rather, deepen the slot in the safety. Take your time and remove very little, you only lack 10 thousandths or
so. You really don't want any extra overtravel in the trigger. You cannot hurt anything but a 12.00 safety by remove
ing the material on it, so many guys prefer filing it. Use a caliper to check your progress so you know how many
file strokes (and or stone) it takes to remove a couple thousands at a time.

Thanks for the advice guys. It feels significantly better after filing down the safety.
