| Started reloading for my 6.8 yesterday. Shot it today. Short-stroked on every shot. Bolt failed to lock back on empty mag. I've put 62 rounds through it of Remington 115OTM and never had this happen. Today I was shooting 22g IMR 4198 with CCI BR2 primers. Bullets were 110g Nosler Accubonds. The cases were crimped at the very top of the chanelure, which made the COAL slightly shorter than I would have liked, however was my first time to reload to a crimp and I was more interested in the conisistency of the rifle. I am wondering is it possible my loads are just too light. I'm planning on upping the charge to 23g Thursday. WOA barrel 16", 1:11" twist. |
Never increase the powder charge a grain at a time. When working up a load increase the charge in 1/10 of a grain increments untill you get reliable functioning and the velocity you are after. The max load is 24.2 grains of 4198, DO NOT GO OVER THE MAX LOAD. Check out the reloading section under Armory. |
Well, I was posting this as a "Troubleshooting" item more so than a "Reloading" issue. I have reloaded safely for 5 years now and just recently for the 6.8 SPC. I'm not concerned about 23 grains damaging the rifle, just wondering if 22 grains would cause it to short stroke or if maybe I've got other issues I didn't know about that the Remington OTM was covering up. Looking for some experience in this area. |
| Problem is resolved. The PRI gas block/buis was pushed all the way back to the barrel build up on the WOA barrel, which caused the gas port holes to be mismatched between the barrel and gas block. I didn't have a problem with shortstroking on factory loads, must be hotter than my reloads. I moved the gas block forward about 1/8 of an inch and all is well. |
