The retaining ring on my firing pin in my service rifle is peened in the front like it's been pounding on the bolt carrier.  There is a substantial burr raised evenly around the diameter of the retaining ring.

My carbine doesn't have any of this and they've both shot about the same number  of rounds.

Has anyone else experienced this?  Is there something wrong?

Thanks for any help.

Are you running an un-shrouded carrier in this rifle? If so, the hammer might be catching the firing pin.

I had a similar issue.  Look at the top of your hammer, and see if it has a "ridge".  It will be a line that runs up the middle of the hammer, which splits it into two halves.  File this ridge down, it was burring my firing pin, which was in an un-shrouded semi-auto carrier.  Fixed my problem.

I have one carbine that does that. It still function fine though.
