After about a month of troubleshooting this gun I have gotten no where. This is my first build and it is very frustrating. When I first put the gun together I was having very bad short stroking problems. It was so bad the gun would fire then rechamber the empty case. I had a generic railed gas block and a generic bolt carrier, so I purchased a JP rifles gas block and a Young NM bolt carrier. After installing these, the gun would work perfectly for maybe 20 rounds then it would start short stroking again. I've gone through almost ever possible problem with my parts and nothing has worked. My barrel is an 18" Superior with rifle gas, could it be that I'm not getting enough gas through the barrel? I was reading that some people have had to open up their gas port to get enough gas through the 18" barrel for rifle gas. I've gone through all of the usual suspects, gas block alignment, gas key, buffer/spring and nothing has worked. I honestly have no idea what to do with this gun right now, please help.

Do you know someone with a BCG you could try out to see if your BCG is somehow bad?

I started with generic bolt carrier and matched bolt from Superior and it was short stroking very badly. Then I got a complete Young NM bcg, as I said it helped a very small amount but noting permenant. I have been be swapping back and forth between the two bcg's and still nothing is getting accomplished.

a small update. When it stops working, if I loosen the gas block move it around a bit then tighten it back down. The gun will properly fire 10-15 rounds and it will even lock back on an empty mag. Then, unexplainably a round will not feed properly and it's all over.

Once the gas block is indexed correctly with the barrel gas port, you need to loctite the allen screws, or the will just loosen back up on you (read gas leak at the block).

Unfortunately I have been doing that. I align the block, test fire to check function. If it works I one at a time remove and coat the set screws with loctite, then allow them to dry before I test again. The same thing happens every time. I appreciate the suggestion though, is there anything else you that you think it might be.

What is the normal method of holding the screw?
Locktite breaks down under heat.

If locktighting isnt holding, you could stake it.
