I've had my .308 for about 3 months now and the other day out plinking away I pulled back on the charging handle and the bolt stuck in a forward position. Not forward enough to use the assist and I cant for the life of me pull the bolt back with the handle. I'm a newb to terms so bare with me but the inner part of the bolt that meshes with the back of the barrel is all the way forward but the outer part of the bolt is sitting back about 3/4 inch. Any ideas on how to remedy this? I obviously cant separate the upper and lower to troubleshoot it. Using remington ammo and never had this problem ever before. Thanks in advance.

Pull back on the charging handle while slamming the butt of the rifle straight down on the ground.

Is there a live round in the chamber?

I'll give that a shot, but yes there is a live round and thats what worries me. Should I not do that or go do it outside away from anything that could be endangered?

I've done it with live rounds in the chamber before, there really is no danger of the weapon firing out of battery, was just curious, that's all. Keep hands and arms inside the ride and clear of the trigger at all times.

You might try pushing out the (front receiver PIN) then the rear Pin,the upper lower will come apart,it will be Safer and easier to fix..I've had the same malfuntion,(Is this a Reloaded case?)If so most likely your brass wasn't resized correctly.I have also used a brass rod/punch to remove the case from the chamber..I had alot of problems with DPMS tight chambers and resized cases, even when the case was completely resized to the Bottom..Sold the gun!!

Already tried separating upper & lower, won't work.

Was the ammo reloads?

Did you get a chance to or look at your previous fired brass to blow primers?

Will your rifle go on safe?

But like what was already stated... this may be a little tougher than normal, but, take out the pivot pin first, then you take down pin. You might need to tap it out with a brass drift but it will come out. This way you can lift the front part of the receiver off. Just be cautious of the spring tension on the bcg at this point.
