I got a new lmt mrp today and when checking the bolt I found that I only had 2 gas rings not 3 is this normal for a standard bolt and standard carrier from lmt.

No, you should have three gas rings.

Gas rings go for about a Buck.

Get LMT on the phone and have them send you a set (should be for free).

As for if the rifle will run with only two gas rings, it may, but with the extra movement of the rings in the retaining channel, and the fact that the bolt/rings are mating with the carrier during break in, it's a bad idea to run the rifle this way (read may snap a ring and do some damage).

Think of it as this way, would you drive a new car with 1/3 of the lug nuts missing from the tires?

Thank you for help I called lmt today and they said they would send me a ring. If I can find some rings localy will they work, or are rings not interchangable between different brand bolts. Thanks again.   Jon

Rings are rings, and it's best to have a few sets on hand just incase something happens to a set (read they are dirt cheap, and should be part of your spare parts kit).

Most of the time, rings last for a long time (read 10 to 30 thousands of rounds), but even once in a while you can get something like a blow primer piece back in the gas section that can reek havoc on a ring.  Also to point out, if you find that a gas ring is getting bent and you are installing the bolt correctly in the carrier, the taper cut at the beginning of the gas section on the carrier may not be correct, and a new carrier is in order to solve the problem.

Bottom line, gas rings are still in good working order as long as they will hold the bolt in the carrier when bolt section of the carrier is pointed downward without the cam, and the bolt stays in the B/C.
