Bear with me I am totally new to the AR world. I just finished putting together an RRA 16” A4 upper assembly (which I ordered) with a RRA lower which I put together with a RRA LPK. I went to the range today to fire it for the first time…I put two shells in the magazine to start with and tried it. I closed the bolt, fired the first shot and hit my target…pulled the trigger to fire the second round…nothing, plus the trigger wouldn’t budge. I ejected the live round, put two more rounds in the magazine and tried it again…same thing, but I accidentally pushed the trigger FORWARD and it “caught”…the second round fired. I put five rounds in the magazine and shot off all five rounds, BUT each time after the first shot, I had to push the trigger forward. Does anyone have a clue to what is going on, and what I need to do to fix it? Thanks |
www.ar15.com/content/guides/assembly/lower/![]() Go back and recheck you install of the lower FCG parts. The above photos the wind direction of the hammer spring, and shows the hammer spring legs correctly resting on the trigger pin. If you look close, you can even see the correct install of the trigger spring. The disconnector spring gets installed large coil side down into the back of the trigger slot below the disco. Check the sides of the trigger C cut (make sure that the trigger freely rotates on the pin), and the disco and hammer rear sear for edge burs. If found, remove them. Also, make sure that the FCG have been lubed before they are installed. Again, if the trigger is not rotating on the pin/in the receiver, or there is edge burs on the disco/rear hammer sear preventing them from releasing from each other, then the hammer is not going to reset. |

Ok here is where I look like an idiot I did not lube it during the build. There was a lite coat of oil on everything and I thought it would be ok. My install looks just like the picture, but I do have a question...how far should the trigger travel before letting off the hammer? Mine doesn't move that far at all. I am used to shooting bolt action and it was enough of a difference to make me wonder. Ok, what do I lube, and what kind of lube? I guess we learn by our mistakes

For Lube/CLP, use BreakfreeCLP. You can switch over to other lubes if you want, but at least you will have a bases to judge the others by. All the parts on the FCG/ the rifle except the bore will get a light coat of CLP. The bore/chamber should be cleaned with a copper solvent, but the solvent needed to be completely removed before the rifle is fired (bore left in a dry state for use). The hammer should release off the disco at reset when the trigger comes back to almost rest. As for the hammer release point from the trigger off the primary sear, you will have some creep in a standard FCG, with trigger break weight around 5lbs to 8lbs. |
