I posted this to the build it forum and realized that this may be a better place. I just bought my first AR. A DPMS AP4 it came with the round free float tube. I want to replace it with a Quad rail. I spoke with the DPMS customer service and he led me to believe that I needed a propriatary Quad rail to replace this. Shouldn't any of the free float quad rails fit? I am looking at the Yankee Hill version and believe that I would just need to remove the free float mount that I have on now and replace it with the Yankee Hill version and screw it on. True? Thanks for the help..... |

If you want to change the free float tube, you may also need to change the barrel nut. I am not certain since I lack experience with brands other than Yankee Hill, but the threads on the barrel nut that the tube "screws" on to may differ from brand to brand. I have the light weight free float tube from YHM and the barrel nut also has indents for locking screws in the forearm to prevent the tube from coming loose. I found the best prices on Yankee Hill parts at Triggerfin.com Photo from Yankee Hill Machine http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c206/mdmowrey/ar15/YHM9483.jpg |
