Ok so I just bought a brand new Bushmaster XM15 (My First Gun). Took it to the range and ran about 200 rounds through it. Brought it home followed dissassembly and cleaning procedures to the letter, reassemebled and now I noticed that the safety is acting a little odd. Its hard to describe so I recorded a video to show the problem I am having its at www.badbadbiker.com/safetyprob.mpg   But basically after dry firing the weapon the safety will not engage unless I pull the charging handle back, is this normal?? If not how can I fix this?

If the hammer is not cocked, you cannot put the safety on.

As stated by Meplat, it’s normal/functioning correctly,

The bottom lob on the hammer (after/below the hammer sear) is obligated and until the hammer is cocked, the trigger will not reset all the way backwards (back tail of the trigger dropping downward to clear the selector cam as it moves over the top of it when switched) to allow the selector to cam/rotate into the safe position.

P.S. Welcome to the site!!!
(the real reason that I posted since you where not welcomed to the site on your first post ).
