I got a Vltor Flash Hider that I'm having trouble installing. It seems the flat part of the wrench grooves aren't wide enough to accomodate my DPMS multi wrench or even a standard crescent wrench. What can I use here?

Buy a cheap wrench, and grind it down with a belt sander.

If you want a ready made tool, look for a "tappet wrench". Basically looks like a 1/2 thickness open end wrench.

You haven't really worked on things until you have a collection of 'Custom' tools made just for jobs like this.

You've really got it made once you start breaking out the torch to soften and Bend wrenches to fit into places.

Heck, I've still got a dogleg wrench I made 20 years ago to remove Bellhousing to Engine mounting bolts in FIAT 124 Spiders.  Nothing else would do the job up against the firewall.  I haven't touched a FIAT in 15 years, but the wrench is still in my garage.  Just in case...

Used to have an entire box full of "benders and grinders". usually pawn shop or flea market specials.
The tappet wrench suggestion is for those who don't have the tools to make one, or who don't want an "ugly" tool on their bench.

Whats the Standard wrench size for flash hiders? it's going to be the larger of the 2 as on a DPMS multi-wrench...
and who would even carry a Tappet Wrench?

Any of the tool truck brands should, and Craftsman used to. They may also be listed as "Thin" or "Low Clearance" wrenches by some makers.

Don't have the DPMS wrench, or that hider so I'm not going to be able to tell the size.  My Colt A2 birdcage hider is 3/4" though.
