Within a month or so I am gonna be getting a RRA AR and I was wondering if it is hard or not to remove the front sight? The reason I ask is because I am gonna be putting A1 Triangle Handguards on it and I need to take the round handguard end cap off to put a triangle cap on the end. I take it there are screws on the front sight and you loosen them up to slide the sights off right? If it is more complicated should I just have my dealer put the end cap and handguards on?

Remove the flash Hider, then remove the front sight by tapping out the 2 tapered dowel pins using a 1/8” diameter drift pin punch. Be sure to drive the pin out from the
SMALL END.  Remove the sight assembly and gas tube from the barrel.  If you are only changing out the handgaurd end you will not need to remove the gas tube from the front sight.

Be careful with the flash hider some are put on way over the recommended torque value, make sure the barrel is firmly supported before you try to remove it.  I've also seen some that were Loctite'ed into place.  If you cannot remove it with moderate force, I would seek assistance.  The sight should come off with a few taps from a hammer.  Try a block of wood between the hammer the the sight so as not to mess up the sight.

RRAs use straight pins, not taper pins.  I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter what end you drive out.

Really? I thought it was only LMT that used straight pins.

I did some reading and I just wanted to be sure. As far as Full sized A2 versions they all have a triangle end cap right? I always thought they had a round one but according to what I have read it is only on the short handguards. So I take it that I will be able to put old A1 handguards on it without changing the cap then right?

How hard should these pins be to get out?  I gave up, as i am "mushrooming" my smaller punch.

Nope.  RRA does as well.

The pins can be extremely difficult to get out. You need a high quality punch, sturdy surface (like a pine block), and sometimes heat and penetrating oil to get the pins out. I trashed several punches before finding one that was solid enough not to deform. It transferred more of the hammer's energy to the pin and popped it right out.
