I bought a used Bushmaster lower. The trigger is spongy, feels like it drags just before it releases. All my other lowers have a clean crisp release. I don't know what to look for any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Mach |

Pull the FCG and check a few parts after cleaning them. 1. Check the springs to make sure that they are still strong and in a good working order. If the hammer spring has been tweaked, it should have been down at the coils, and not down the spring legs. Also, if one leg has been clipped, replace the hammer spring. 2. Check the front edge of the trigger sear. If you find that it has dent just down from the tip of the edge, replace it. Here chances are someone polished it past the case hardening and it is now beyond repair. 3. Take a good look at the sides of the hammer sear. Again in general, you may want to check for denting (polished past the case hardening), but also if the old owner had problems with a botch trigger job, they may have only replaced the hammer alone to resolve it. Note: The problem here would if the hammer is new, there still may be side-milling burs on the sears that have not worn off yet. If you want to address these side sear burs, you can do so with a stone, but again, remember that the case hardening is only so deep, and you really don't want to address all the way across the contact edge. Lastly, take a good look at the sides channel passages of the hammer and the trigger. If you find burs where the pins ride in the channels, address them. Also while you have the FCG pins in hand, check them out as well. Could be that the pins may be too mar’d from an old bur /service wear, and just need to be replaced as well. |
