I have an AR bolt disassembler and it came with no instructions. Seems pretty simple, but I cannot remove the pin to change out the spring. what am I doing wrong? I have the ejector partially depressed but the pin wont back out. ???? Any help is appreciated. Yes, I do feel foolish. Billy |

You will need a 1/32 punch to punch out the retaining pin. When the retaining pin is punched out, the ejector will fly, so keep a rag in front of the bolt face to catch it. To reinstall the ejector, first just start the retaining pin back into the bolt, now install the spring and ejector then use a spent case off the extractor to pack the ejector back in. The one thing to keep in mind is that the ejector has a flat for the retainer pin, so it helps to back feed the punch through the other side of the hole to hold the ejector flat into the correct position as you drive the retaining pin back in. Once everything is back together, check the ejector to make sure it's not binding (spent case off the extractor). If the ejector binds or will not push back into the bolt face, the ejector slipped/rotated, and the retaining pin in not in the ejector flat. Added: The pin channel in the bolt is .062, and a 1/16" punch would be .0625 if the end is not peened and made correctly. So unless you want to either open up the channel (punched peened), or reduced the size of the punch (bolt channel shaving the peened punch), go with the next smaller size punch than the 1/16". |
