I have a Colt AR15 SP1.  While shooting last time, I would pull the trigger and the gun would fire.  Then, I would slowly let the trigger out.  Just before the trigger would lock back out, the gun would double or triple fire.  Any ideas.

Thanks

First off, Welcome to the site!!!!

As for the problem, guessing that either the disconnector spring is weak/installed upside down (large coil side installs downward into the back of the trigger slot), or the disco/hammer secondary sear is worn, with pretty much the rifle is in need of being serviced.

Start off by pulling the fire control group to confirm that it is clean and not foul binding, that the sears are in working order, followed by checking the reinstall to make sure that all the parts are installed correctly.  If the problem persists, then it's time to either retime the disco if timing alone is the problem, or just replace the entire FCG if it has come to the end of it's life.
