I tried t search this with little luck....but 'er goes.... My brand new DPMS AP4 16" Carbine has been sighted in and the rear sight is all the way to the left. It is the typical removable carry handle sight. Is this an issue or will it be in the future? It seems that the rifle is sighted in just fine, plenty accurate for my taste, but I read somewhere that this should be fixed, is that a good suggestion or internet speculation? Didn't think too much about it until I mounted the carry handle scope mount and a red-dot. Now I can't see half of the front post b/c of the sight being so far left - I see the side of the "see thru" mount. FYI - I called DPMS and they say send it in. First they say just the carry handle itself, then after a call back with my questioning how that could find the problem, they suggested the entire upper. Now, I don't like the idea of my baby leaving home at such an ealry age, but will if need be (obviously if it is needed). thanks for any replies.... |
| On another illustrious post I read that a rear sight should be no more than 6 clicks from center to be an acceptable zero. I would tend to agree that I would want my upper and front sight to be in alignment. Should a sudden fire fire at long range in a Hurricane force wind be against you.... |

Up to 12 clicks off center, And the problem with the rifle being either the carry handle not centering with the upper bore line, or the front sight/barrel not centered with the bore line as well. Think of it this way, the front sight is canted to the left, and now you have to move the rear sight to the left to make the sights see the POI of the barrel. So, it could be as simple as just reinstalling the barrel to get the FSB back over to center top of the bore line/to the right. |
| I've seen the same problem with a couple of my builds because I did not take the time to align the barrel with the upper receiver. The index pin slot in the upper receiver is usually larger than the index pin and the barrel will tend to rotate in the direction you tighten the barrel nut. In plain english, you have to move the rear sight to compensate for the slight amount of barrel tilt. Send it back to the mfr for correcting. |
