While shooting my 16 inch bushmaster with an Izzy break, the thing came off.  It hit my target which was 25 yards away.  Has anyone ever heard of this happening before.  The crown is not damage and there was nothing in the barrel.  Maybe the pin broke?  Any thoughts or suggestions would be great.

Chances are something/someone bent the brake somewhat off bore line, and you have a bullet strike to it sending it down range

Now since the ban is over for everyone in a free state, don't bother replacing the brake (read loud bastard that makes more noise than actual working), just see if someone (maybe bushmaster) can thread and install a standard FS instead.

That is what I was thinking but the rifle was never dropped.  I am going back in the morning to try to locate the brake.  It might show me what happened.
I do live in a FREE state.  I have a guy that builds cans in my county.  I am going to have him thread it for me.

Found the muzzle break yesterday.  The break failed right behind the pin.  The pressure blew the break off.  There was no visible signs of a crack prior to firing.  There is also not evidence of the break being struck by a round.

If you have an Izzy break on your rifle inspect it.  I suggest replacing with a thread on.
