Greetings,

I have a 15T in the 54XXX range, and overall have been pleased with fit, finish, and accuracy.

However, it does have magazine issues: some USGI aluminum mags will drop free when released, while others are stuck in the well and require a significant level of force to remove. Furthermore, it's not a matter of one particular brand of USGI aluminum magazine functioning better than another: i.e., one OKAY, D&H, Center, ect. drops free and another will not. And no, PMAGS won't seat due to the magwell bevel.

I have tried adjusting the magazine release lever tension to no avail.

All brands of USGI aluminum magazines freely drop from the well when the upper and lower are separated, but not when the two are mated.

Now for the voo-doo: when I couple the 15T lower with a Bushmaster upper, mags drop free; so, I'm thinking it's not a magwell being out-of-spec problem. Too, the 15T upper mated with a Bushmaster lower drops mags without difficulty.

Before I call S&W customer service, just thought I would tap into the collective wisdom here.

I appreciate the input.

Thanks.

I have been trying to duplicate your issue. The only thing i can see assuming magwell and upper are close to ok, is the bolt catch. Check the bolt catch to see if the tab, that is pushed up by the follower, is not defective (shaped wrong or too short).

I say this because it is possible that the bolt catch is getting in behind the follower and hanging the mag up. I could only duplicate it on a good rifle by removing the BCG and tipping the follower front down.

My first thought was the mag catch button was engaged on the shaft too far (shaft end should be flush with the button) causing the catch to barely release the mag then drag on it when finger pressure was lightened. But, you said you tried adjusting the tension, so that probably was not it.

Check that bolt catch. If you call S&W, i am sure they will get it taken care of. Their customer service is top notch.

maybe if you coat the mags with a type ink like a gold marker and insert the mag and pull it out and see where it rubs off to get the general area that is hanging it up...then grind it or buff it out!

or need to insert and remove the mags a couple hundred times to loosen things up.
