Just got my first AR,a Bushmaster A3/M4.I am having a lot of trouble getting it to feed.
Most of the time it will fire the first round, the the next round will not feed. The unfed round has the head of the bullet pushed part way into the casing.
It looks as if the bolt comes forward while the next round is not fed.I tried two different brand new mags loaded in different amounts. The Bushmaster mag that came with the rifle seems a little worse than the aftermarket mag.Occasionally the first round will not feed either.Ammo is Remington UMC.

Rifle cleaned and lubed correctly?

Full stoke function tested via a single round loaded into a mag, charge and fired out of the rifle, with the end result the bolt locked back on the bolt hold open catch?

Key bolt confirmed tightened to 37 in lbs?

This rifle is brand new.I took it apart before ever firing it and cleaned it and lubed it with clp.
With one round in the mag,the bolt will hold open after firing. However, sometimes the first round will not feed. After pulling the charging handle back and letting it go,the round will be stuck between the bolt and the feed ramp.
have not checked torque on bolt key.

Problem solved. My gun just doesn't like the Remington UMC.I went testing today with different mags and ammo.My gun will fire perfectly,100% of the time when loaded with Federal Amercan Eagle. If I reload with the UMC,it fails to feed about 50% of the time.
I also tried some Winchester Q3131A and had a couple failures at first, then it shot fine.
All mags that I tried worked good.
