So every time I fire my new build myself the bolt carrier only moves back about a inch, I have to then pull the charging handle to the rear to extract the round when I pull the trigger the same thing happens. I’ve been through the TM and have checked the buffer spring for length, I cleaned my bolt and carrier per the Tm and the only thing I can think of is the gas tube is maybe getting stuck on the carrier key? so my question is should there be any touching of the tube and the key if I remove my bolt and just put the carrier in, I have very minimal touching so I don’t think this is problem but I'm out of ideas... Thank you... |

If all the visual and touchy feely aspects seem correct, then perhaps the gas isn't reaching the carrier with sufficient pressure or power to extract correctly. Can you spray some solvent/cleaner down the gas tube easily and have it run out the barrel? Try to keep it simple and work the system properties before you modify anything. Good luck. Edit for second thought. Does the carrier lock up and unlock easily when done manually with just the upper in hand? Thinking that the bolt lugs and the barrel extension may be slightly at odds.... |

are you saying is the carrier key allowing clp to flow into the actual carrier if i put some in the hole? if so yes. i just put a few drops in and could see it inside the carier body. let me also tell you what i'm using, cant hurt. Bushmaster 20" govt 5.56 profile barrel Sherluk bolt and a3 upper RRA gas tube |
The gas tube entering the key should have a little resistances, but not to the point that it binds beyond the point that inserting your finger into the back end of the raw carrier and pushing in/pulling back will not allow the two to mate/unmate. Also, what ammo are you using, and have you correctly cleaned/CLP lubed the upper bearings surfaces before firing the rifle? |
