Hi, folks.  I have a short Bushy upper mounted on a H-Bar lower.   Everything works fine - except! . . .

. . . When the bolt is released over a full mag, the bolt strips only strips the top round about 1/2 of the way out of the mag and then stops.  I can then complete the process of chambering by puching the forward assist.  This happens on every round, and I can't figure out from just looking where it's binding.  Any ideas?

Best,
Jon

It may be magazine related.  I have a new mag that has sharp edges on the feed lips that sometimes does the same thing but my old mags don't have a problem.

this just dropping the bolt off the catch?

try pulling the charging handle back, and letting it fly, if that works, see if there are any burrs on the mag. feed lips(polish off if there are)

are these new mags?if they are, they will have a stiff spring for a bit as well

Yes, the bolt runs fine with the mag out.  That fact alone indicates that it's probably a mag problem (boy do I feel stupid!).  I'll go from there and see what's what.

Best,
Jon

1. You said it was on a FULL mag.  Is it only the first couple of rounds or the whole mag.  It could be feed lips on the mag as well causing it to bind.
2. It could be a weak buffer spring.

I had a similar issue.  I switched to CProducts mags and replaced my buffer spring with an ISMI buffer spring.
