I put together an AR and after shooting the first round, the 2nd round is loose in the chamber and the bolt is only halfway closed (if there is an acronym describing this problem, let me know). I swapped the upper & lower halves with another AR to see which half was the problem, and the problem gun's upper worked fine with a different lower, but the problem gun's lower did the same thing with a different upper half. Is there something to check or replace in the lower half that commonly causes this? Thanks. |

Ditto, Function test the unloaded rifle via pulling back on the charging handle, then walking the handle back down slowly. If the bolt binds up before lock up, you have one of the below problems. You forgot to install the disconnector spring, have installed the wrong hole size FCG, or the hammer bottom of L cut on the top of the firing pin contact pad is catching the firing pin collar on the forward stroke. |
| Some collapsable stocks have threads turned on the small side and if not " pulled up" while tightening the locknut will cant the tube downward enough to create drag on the carrier and not close properly. However, this condition should be bench testable by pulling the bolt back with the charge handle and letting it slowly forward. If your bolt carrier is fully shrouded start doublechecking the stock tube. Dano's comments are on the mark for what to check in the fire control. |

Thanks for the replies, I'll take a good look at the lower, and just take it back apart and re-assemble if I don't see any problems. Sorry about not describing the gun, it has a full-size fixed stock, 20 inch barrel, A1 upr with no forward assist, Stinger lwr. Thanks again. |
