Sorry guys for the newbie question, but here it goes. If I try to load the first round slow it jams 100% of the time. But as long as I pull the charging handle back and let er rip it feeds every time. Is this normal for all AR's or is this unique to mine?

When charging the weapon, never ride the charging handle back forward.

Your options to charge the weapon are,

1. Pull all the back on the charging handle, then let go of it (read let it fly)

2. Lock the bolt back on the bolt hold open, insert a loaded mag, then hit the bolt catch lever and allow the bolt to charge home.

Don't be. Questions are a grand source of knowledge. That and screwing up royally. I prefer the questions.

When yoy ride it forward slowly like that, you probably aren't allowing the round to fully chamber.  It can't go off (which is a good thing) unless the bolt if fully forward.  If you wouldh ave tapped the forward assist when you slow loaded those rounds, they almost certainly would not have failed to fire.

No worries!!!!!!
The few line responses to resolve a problem are much easier than some of the novels I have write.

Now, less time posting, more time shooting!!!!!
