Tried some reloads in my CDNN SP1upper today with a new hardchromed Bolt Carrier.
Last week, using Mil-Spec XM193, it fed and extracted 100%.
Today, it wouldn't cycle correctly,  some cases were not stripped off the mag and some didn't even extract off the bolt.
The bolt felt a little stiff in the hardchromed carrier so I added a bunch more lube.
Same problem.
Took apart the hardchromed carrier, swaped the parts including the same bolt into an older parked carrier, and it shot and cyc led just fine with my reloads.

Is a hardchromed carrier a little tighter in the bolt chamber because of the plating, does it require more break in, do they only work with full, hit mil-spec ammo and what can be done to "loosen it up any" so the bolt moves a little easier and I'm assuming.....that may solve the entire issue?

***Update***

I check out the chromed carrier to clean it up a little and inspect it better, and the GAS PORT Key is LOOSE!
Not only were the "Mil-Spec Match Bolt Carrier" screws not peened in place...there were LOOSE! Turns out they were barely hand tight!

I'll assume this may have been the actual cause of the problem. Short of bashing the screw tops when I set them back in place...can they be red-loctited so they don't come out again??

Loctite them if you want but definately STAKE them.

"definately STAKE them."

Help greatly appreciated...using a hardened punch..I got 2 decent  "indents" from the carrier key compressing into the sides of the bolts....after letting the red locktite set for 24 hours.

Hopefull this'll tighten it nice and solid so they don't come loose. Doesn;t the "mil-Spec" call or them to be staked, and why are some shipped without staking????

Update:

The carrier-key bolts were tightened, loctited and well-staked.

Gun ran 100%.

FWIW, I'd check the carrier-key bolts/staking in any new carrier...don't take it for granted.
And I found out some makers do not stake the carrier keys......to allow shooters to remove and clean/replace them if it's ever needed.
