I just put a 16" SS WOA (Recon from Denny) on my receiver.  I was wondering if anyone has any tips at to how to know if the gas port, and the gas block are properly lined up.  I know about the dimple on the underside of the barrel.  I used a YHM flip up, and if I put it against the shoulder that is on the bbl, then the gas tube goes too far into the receiver not letting the carrier to seat properly.  So after a few trys I inserted the carrier first then the gas tube, and block.  This allowed everthing to fit, but the YHM flip up block is just a tiny bit off the shoulder of the bbl.

My question is.  Is there anyway to know if the gas port and the gas tube are properly lined up, or do I have to wait and see if when I shoot it.  If there not lined up then I'll have a single shoot.

this happened to me so I left the BCG in the receiver, slid on the block with the tube installed, and measured the gap. then I measured where the gas port was on the barrel and in the block to see if they lined up.

What bbl do you have, and did it all measure out?

it's a SS Wilson 16" hbar from Adco w/mid gas system. when I got done the gas block was 1/16" or less from the step of the barrel. if you look with the gas block off, side by side with the barrel, you can kinda eyeball if the holes line up after you measure.

Thanks,
Was it a wilson that was contoured by WOA?  That would explain mine if it is.

This is it. The WOA turned barrels are marked as such, Steve could tell you for sure.

If you have an air compressor shoot some air down the barrel with the BCG all the way in battery. (Use a rubber grommet or something similar to protect the barrel crown) About 100 pis should be enough to unlock the bolt.  I used this technique when I put a PRI flip up on by carbine and it worked fine.

The bbl is machined to allow use of the frt HG retainer to fit between the FSB and the shoulder on the bbl. When using full floating forend the fsb/gasblock will set just a little forward of the step.

Thanks for the tip, I'll do that tonight.

rjay,
Thanks for that bit of knowledge, it makes perfectly good sense to me now.  Crystal clear, and I feel better about my installation now.

I did a ck on the alignment with compressed air, and it seems to be lined up well.  I don't have a compressor that will put out 100 psi, but I did something a little different.  While my brother put the air in throught the gas tube, I covered the barrel extenstion with my thumb and plenty of air was flowing out the front of the bbl.  His compressor only puts out about 40 to 60 psi.  The real test will be shooting it in the morning.
