I have a Bushmaster shorty thats been 100% since 2000

the last time at the range smoke came pouring out of the Hand Guard and got real hot to hold!

I shot just 1 20rd mag as Fast as I could but shooting to hit!

the shorty has never done this before?

Im thinking maybe a build up in the gass tube caused the smoke?

it dint leak at the front site?

anyway the Shorty runs fine?

just kinda wierd

If your going to glow the barrel, it helps to cut down on all the smoke if you remove the oil from the outside of the barrel first.

I dont know how oil got in under the hand guards?

I also didnt clean it on the Last trip to the range before this happen!

I do put some CLP on the carrier and bolt but thats about it?

It's probably just the first time the barrel has gotten hot enough to burn the oil from under the guards. Should not be a problem. Cool though.

I bought the AR15 in 2000 and live in SW FL

Ive try to shoot close to 500 rds a day

it just never got to hot to hold before

also I took off my arms39 Goose neck to put my ML2 on a new Larue cantilever mount

there are Burn marks on the last three holes from the Carbine hand guards on the

Anyway the Bushy Shorty works fine

Take the upper hand guard off and watch while you fire to see if you have a gas leak.

Bushmaster shorty 16 hbar
Back in 2001 I had Kurt cut it down to 14.7 and add his FAKE Bird cage
I didnt want a long barrel carbine
