I have a Colt Sporter AR-15 7.62x39 flat top. While I have the carry handle conversion chart for rear sight alignment for .223/5.56 for this rifle I have NO info for the use of the Russian 7.62x39 round. Am I just S.O.L. or has someone worked up a chart for dial-in elevation (300, 400, 500 m/yrd) to solve my problem? Thanks In Advance, ArticWolf |

Ok first off, The trouble-shooting forum is more for problems with the rifle, and not lets find a lackey to do the math for me. Since you are new to the site, I cut you some slack to help you, help yourself!!!!  You want to down load the freeware program “Ballistics Calculator”. Once downloaded, you will use the program to find the standard ballistic drops of the rifle using 55-grain bullets at 3150 FPS muzzle speed (settings that the standard elevation knob is set for). From there, you will input the ballistics of the 7.62 x39 ammo that you will be running, and cross reference the drops of the 5.56 ammo distance/settings to that of the 7.62 ammo. Or, if you want to make it even simpler, just replace the standard elevation wheel with a unmarked NM unit, then shoot for effect to make the needed lines on the new wheel (again, as you change ammo types/bullet weights, the setting will change also).

Dano, Yes I’m new to this site. However, you have given me the direction that I needed to solve my problem and for that I thank you. I have NEVER taken the easy road in my life, but from time to time have found the trip is much quicker if you stop along the way to ask for directions. I have found that information for the Colt 7.62x39 is kind of like finding hen’s teeth, but this rifle is worth the extra effort. I feel that with the new mags coming out you will see the popularity of this combination grow. Thanks Again, ArticWolf |

Maybe you will see more of a AR 7.62 crowd with the new mags coming out, but since most of us have just been way too happy with the VEPR's/Ak's/dirt cheap military surplus mags for a while now, hard to say if there will be a huge new following with the AR platform over the others available. Really, the only plus side to the new mags will be for the guys running full auto RR/dias/LL since they are forced to stick with the AR platform to use the R-receiver/devices. |
