This is my first post here, I have been reading for several months and was bitten by the AR bug.  After reading the "build you own AR" thread, that is precisely what I did.  I bought a stag lower and watched for an upper.  I bought a DPMS upper with a 20" stainless bull from midway for $410 which I thought was a good buy.  I put on a A-2 stock and a LCW lpk.  Anyway to get to the point,  after about 20 rounds, the gun started to short stroke not picking up the next round and would not lock open after the last round.  I have read the threads on different peoples guns shortstroking and looked at mine to see if their fixes would work for me.  My gas block was on my barrel canted off ccw.  I staightened it and tried again, still no fix.  I am using D and H mags and have tried 5 different ones.  I took the gasblock off and noticed that the gas hole in the barrel is not staight up and is in the position the gas block was in.  I have checked the key and it is not leaking around from the base of it and the screws are tight.  I did notice that gas has leaked out from around the gas block.   Should I send this back to DPMS or should I attempt to straighten the barrel up myself.  I have done different gun work over the years, mostly 1911s.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,  Jeff

If your running a gas block just get the block port aligned with the barrel port hole, then make sure that the feed lugs and gas tube are aligned correctly.

As for going 20 rounds and having problems, could be break in, and not using CLP to correctly lube the rifle from the start.  If you are using CLP correctly to lube the upper bearing areas, then check to confirm that the carrier will 45* free drop in the upper receiver (key binding on the upper receiver track), and that the tail of the hammer in not too long and causing carrier bind (look for a white line/indent of the disconnector just behind the hook).

What ammo are you using?
You definitely want to align the gas block and the barrel port.  How badly canted is the gasblock when you align them?  (If it's enough to bother you, you may want to call DPMS).

Sorry I didn't mention the ammo brand.  I tried both American Eagle and Remington. And yes it was well lubed.  I emailed DPMS and they replied the next day. They said box it up and send it back and they will take care of it.  Thanks for the help.  Jeff
