Charging the gun does not work out of nowhere.  Tried several mags mostly empty and full.  Round is only making it halfway out of mag.  Forward asist feeds it the rest of the way it locks and fires flawlesly.  weapon is clean and oiled (clp)  I am sure this is simple but thanks in advance.  Mags are GI green followers.  Gun is a bushy.

Are you sure that you are fully inserting the magazine into the mag well?  You may have to give it a good slap to make it seat all the way.

It is a bushmaster xm-15 e2s  20inch heavy barrel.  Mags are fully inserted I am not riding the charging handle.  Half the time if the gun is pointed down it fully charges as it should.  The gun just started doing this outa nowhere.  Could it be a weak spring?

does your rifle have a slotted carrier?

is the firing pin retaining pin bent?

remove the mag, fully retract the carrier with the charging handle and slowly let the carrier close. do you feel any resistance about the mid point of travel?

shotgun the rifle, hold the upper at 45 degress to the ground, retract the carrier by hand and release it, does the bolt close and lock completely?

remove the bolt from the carrier and slowly slide the stripped carrier into the upper, do you feel any resistance as the end of the gas tube enters the carrier key?

how long is the buffer spring?

Tweak,
I am having a similar problem with my brand new build. It almost feels like the carrier doesnt slide smoothly in the upper. How do you tell if the gas tube is rubbing as it enters the carrier key? If it is how do I fix that?
Thanks

you should be able to see the gas tube move as the key hits it.

bend the end of the tube so it is alined with the end of the carrier key

Tweak,
I took the bolt out of the carrier and it is rubbing on the gas tube.
I cant see the tube move and cant tell which way it needs to be bent?
Any ideas how to figure it out and get it straight?
Thanks
