Looking for some answers...

(story)
Sometime back I purchased a Colt MT6400C. Shortly after purchase, I sent the upper to a gunsmith to have the pin-on muzzle brake removed, the barrel threaded and a different muzzle device attached.

Recently I purchased a Phantom FH to replace the other muzzle device.
(end story)

(problem)
When I removed the muzzle device the threads were badly cross-threaded. Yes it was difficult to remove. I would like to purchase a die and clean it up. What size do I need?
Also, ever since I had the aforementioned work done, I've been less than impressed with the accuracy. Is it possible that the noted cross-threading has contributed or possibly ruined the barrel?
(end problem)

I welcome all helpful suggestions and other opnions.

your gsmith probably used a center on the muzzle when he threaded the muzzle, hence, the crown was destroyed. check the crown.

Here's a shot...

So what am I looking at, a new barrel or can it be re-crowned?

OK, I've decided to purchase a new Colt barrel/front sight assy, 14.5" and have my Phantom FH perm attached.

Any recommendations for having the work done? (work being replacing the barrel and perm attaching the FH.)

OK, totally my fault. Apparently the fake FH was blind-pinned (to a 16" barrel )and I screwed up the threads when I took it off. Well then, it's definitely time for a new barrel and when I get it swapped out I'll put the old one up on the EE.

If you are working with a 16 inch barrel, why not just pay(a different 'smith!) to cut away the bad threads, rethread, and silver solder a new muzzle device in place for legality.  Should be a little cheaper than a new barrel.

Where in Texas are you?  My local guy charged me $60 to shorten and thread a postban barrel, and he did a fantastic job recrowning the muzzle.

DFW.

Ah, there's the rub. Who do I trust? At this point, no one more than I have to. So I'll purchase a new 14.5" barrel (I'll get a non-neutered FSB that way too) and have my FH perm-attached.

Thanks, tho.

Don't forget to have it silver brazed, so it's legal length for a Title I firearm.  Just screwing on the flash hider will still leave you with a SBR for NFA purposes.
