I have a new Buushmaster m4 set-up and the buffer retainer & spring keep getting pulled up underneath the boltcarrier upon recoil causing a nasty jam.  I have noticed the spring is now bent I don't know if it was bent before jamming though.  I have ordered a new retainer and spring. Any ideas and  help are very much appreciated!

No, or at least I don't think so,  I don't have a digital camera. I know I know a $1000 rifle and no modern camera.

Sounds like the receiver extension isn't tightened as far as possible onto the lower receiver.  The buffer retainer shouldn't be able to come out until you loosen the receiver extension.

thanks I didn't know that.  I was able to push the buffer back by hand and remove the retainer and spring so that must be the problem.

The M4 buffer tube (3) must "overlap" the edge of the buffer retaining pin (4). This "overlap" prevents the buffer retaining pin from exiting the the buffer retaining pin hole. Obviously this is what is occuring during the recoil of your carrier, the BRP is coming out and being caught on it's rebound into battery.

Sounds as if your having some "Assembly" issues and need to consult your manual or the ones on-site here up top under "Information".

Either that or have someone "properly" re-assemble your M4 stock and parts.

that was the problem. I installed a collapsible stock myself and didn't have the rec. extension overlapping the buffer pin. Thanks for the help it's much appreciated
