| My bolt catch doesn't. This is a new Bushmaster carbine. After about 200 rounds the bolt won't stay open after firing the last round. Manually, the catch may momentrarily hold back the bolt but the bolt always slams closed when I take my finger off the catch. Does the same with or wothout magazine. Simple solution or send back to BM? Any comments would be greatly appreciated. |

As long as I press the bottom of the bolt back hte bolt stays back. But manualy releaseing the bolt lock allows the bolt to close. The bolt lock seems to have full rang of motion. The bolt catch fails all manual and shooting function tests. Now what do I do about it? Replace the bolt catch? |
Check the the lugs on the front of the bolt are nice and square (not rounded and worn). They should be since you said this is a new carbine. Sounds like the bolt catch may be bent a little or something allowing the bolt to slide off it if you're not holding it. If you can replace it yourself, call BM and I'm sure they'll send you a new catch/spring/plunger. Otherwise, send it to them. Also, one other thing for the sake of troubleshooting.... it is catching on the very front of the bolt, not the front of the carrier, right?? If the later, it could be a short-stoking problem. Make sure when you're manually trying it you pull the bolt ALL the way back. rvb |
