Did you remember to clip 1 to 2 rings off the bolt release spring? I missed that part in the instructions and my mags wouldn't hold the bolt open untill I cut 1.5 rings off the spring. I also spend 30 minutes infront of the television wiggling the bolt release back and forth with the upper receiver removed to loosen it up. |
| The Cavalry Arms manual says to cut the spring but that is specific to the Cav 15 receivers only. While it sounds contrary to inital logic, when you cut a spring you are actully making it stiffer. Imagine if you straigtened a spring out into a straight wire. The shorter the wire, the stiffer it gets. However, since the spring is already compressed a little by the bolt catch, the initial amount of spring pressure required to lift it is reduced. This makes it easier for the mag follower to lift the catch. I agree with you though Subnet. Some engineer (E. Stoner) chose that specific size/length/strength spring for a reason. It may be a little too strong but in a combat situation, I would rather my bolt not lock back than to lock halfway through a mag while shooting full auto. On my Stag lower, I polished everything up and the spring (RRA LPK) worked fine. On my Cav lower (RRA LPK too) I had to cut it. |
