I have an Armalite M15A4  with a 16 inch barrel.
The brake is pinned in the rear, which punched out
easy, and has two opposing flat sides in the rear
that looks like you can put a wrench on it.
Does the brake unscrew or is it pressed on.
I have not tried to remove it yet.

My guess is if you can punch out the pin, then the brake is a pressed on type.  Removing this type of break would require the barrel to be threaded to install a Treaded FS.

You might want to check with Armalite to see if they offer a press on type FS that could be installed.

Thanks for the help!

I emailed Armalite and they said it is pressed
on and to have a gunsmith remove it.
Not what I wanted to hear.
I think I will clamp the barrel in a vise
and try to twist it off.

I had asked Armalite the same question. They referred me to a gunsmith to have the work done. They also advised me, that on guns made prior to 2003 the MB was screwed on, pinned and welded, afterwards pressed and pinned.

I found my solution in the FAQ since I have mine since 1998.
