Should the safety be loose? It works fine and clicks on and off but just feels a little loose. Is this a problem or normal?
Thanks

Shouldn't be loose, many are, it's not a big concern as long as the selector locks into FIRE and SAFE.

Loose how? The detent may be missing or the spring may be weak. Some just fit sloppy in the lower.

It locks into fire and safe fine. How do I check the detent and the spring? I wonder if it even has a spring.Once it is in safe or fire the handle will move a bit. Doesn't feel like a spring is pressing on it. It is a colt trigger group and safety. Thanks for your time and help!

The spring and detent are above the pistol grip.  The spring is retained in the ejection side of the pistol grip, and the detent above it in the receiver.  To get to both, you just need to remove the pistol grip via the bottom screw.

Take your time because when you pull the pistol grip, the detent will drop right out and can be easily lost.

An old trick it to place a small ball bearing under the spring, (in the pistol grip) to space up the spring and increase tension on the safety detent.
