| I put a new M-4 upper on my pre-ban Colt target sporter lower. The rear takedown pin fits really tight and needs to be tapped in and out with a punch. Should I increase the size of the rear hole on the upper? I was thinking of polishing it out with a dremel and flintz. Is it OK to use the same bolt assembly from the Colt on my new upper? What's the advantage of an enhanced bolt assembly? Thanks. |

Tight is good, IMO, and no I would not ream the uppers rear takedown hole. While entirely up to you, I have a dedicated b/bc/ch for each of my uppers and DO NOT swap bolts between my uppers. You stated that the upper is new, so you want to put a "USED" bolt into a brand new upper, (while the bc/ch make no difference, the bolt is worn to match the old upper ya removed it from) something, that while possibly okay to do, represents something I never do. Bolts wear from use in the upper their used in, hence why I don't. IF you chose this path be certain to atleast use a headspace guage to check it. The enhanced bolt assemblies have more metal covering the firing pin assembly if it's RRA bolt your referring to, if it's the LMT versions, well their just built better and have plated bolts IIRC. my 2 cents, Mike |
