1.  Rifle is a box-stock, ~1988-manufactured, Colt HBAR-15A2 Sporter.  Round count is under 500 rds, with ZERO malfunctions noted.  Rifle has remained in a safe and neither fired nor manipulated much in the past 15 years.

2.  When using firm pressure on the bottom button of the bolt locking lever to administratively lock the bolt open, the bolt binds up about .5" to 1" during its movement to the rear.   Same occurs when using an empty mag with green follower.   Cycles fine with a full mag, until extracting the last round and the green follower engages the bolt catch.   At this point, attempting to release the bolt forward with the top button of the bolt catch does not release the now "stuck" bolt.   Bolt will return to battery and lock when using the forward assist.   Have not been able to fire the rifle, but I expect the same problem would occur if I were to do so since I used a very firm pull on the charging handle to see if I could get past the bind, to no avail.

3.  Applied a light coat of white grease on the sloped, forward face of the bolt catch.   There does seem to be some contact with the bottom of the bolt carrier lower in the slot behind the firing pin, but I still cannot determine where it's contacting the bolt carrier.   Does not appear to be catching on the locking lugs as they have not traveled to the rear far enough when the bolt binds.

4.  Conversely, when using gentle pressure on the bottom button of the bolt catch, or when using magazines with black followers, I cannot seem to induce the problem.

5.  Bolt catch lever does "clock" very slightly (estimate less than 5-degrees), but I assess that wear is not the issue.   Out of spec is a possibility, I suppose.

6.  Anyone experienced this problem before?   Thanks for any assistance.

Seen the same problem when using single shot sleds In DCM rifles.

The problem is that the tip of the bolt catch is binding up.  The solution is to take a little metal off the ejection side tip of the catch (high point when it's up).  This allows the bolt catch to fit between two edges of the carriers hammer ramp slot, and not bind on the ejection side of the ramp channel.
