My A2 upper has a heavy 20 inch HBAR,while my A1 upper 20 inch HBAR has a thin barrel!

I want to change out barrels, should I also change Bolts and carriers so each would have its original?    Or would that effect HS any?

Both are pre-ban 20 inch.

 Thanks    Bob

I would say yes, couldn't hurt. But if they are new barrels or havent been shot I don't think it really matters

Keep the bolts with the barrels.

BTW,
This is an HBAR contour

Thanks tweak I got mixed up my A2 reciever has a HBAR,the A1 reciever has a CMP barrel, the upper reciever is marked P M  and has FA but no BD!        Also the colt barrel has the the sloted carrier(is this okay or do I really need to get the shrouded kind)?   Some good pictures of the carriers really helped out!

Thanks    Bob [:D]

Keeping the bolts with the barrels is overrated. I know that at some manufacturers the barrels and bolts are not matched, they just throw them together.

Not unles the hammer is catching on the firing pin.

C_J,

Which company does not check HS after assembly?

Yeah, but if they have been shot, the barrel extension and bolt lugs wear together. If you switch them between rifles constantly, you wont get even wear over the bolt face and barrel extension. Its not really a big deal but some people are just picky about that [:)]

[Judge Dredd]
I KNEW you were going to say that.

Do you mean when Oly ships a bolt and barrel, say in a kit, to some one the barrel and bolt aren't HSed to each other? That would be true.

If you're saying they just slap a bolt into a rifle and test fire it I know you're blowing smoke.

They test fire. Word from the inside is they dont headspace. Wouldnt surprise me, there ient much variance you could have in there anyway.

Then they waste a lot of time with reamers and HS gages there. I learned about HSing barrels doing assembly there.

TWEAK you have some really good info here, and I found by searching your whole FAQ page that the A2 upper is an E marked military M16 replacement barrel that I really need to look at closely(to see if its a reject with a rough bore)!

But I'm not paying that much for it and the lower is one of the early DPMS pre-bans that had been turned in and retooled(forged)with a really low ser# (under 300)!

So if I have to get another barrel it wont kill the deal!  The things a guy can learn here if he will just read and ask are priceless!!!

Thanks again!      Bob [:D]
