I looked around and can't find my original post about suggestions to lessen or stop some slight handguard movement I am experiencing.

Refresh info: I have a RRA M4 Tac Entry LE version. I added an AA handguard accessory rail and mounted a CQD vert grip. After I did this I have some movement in the handguard. I am sure this slight movement was there before, but now with the vert grip I just I think I am noticing it more.

I removed the hanguards today and looked to possibly see where this movement is coming from. There is a large flat metal 'ring'/washer on the backside(near the pict. rail on the upper) of the delta ring. This large flat metal ring/washer has notch in it, in which the gas tube goes through. I can move/rotate the delta ring (and this large flat 'ring/washer) back and forth (rotationally). This amount of back and forth rotational movement is the same amount of movement I have when the handgaurds/vert grip are mounted. It is like the notch in the large flat ring/washer is moving slightly around the gas tube, causing the 'slop' or 'play'.

So how can I lessen/eliminate this play? I was thinking about dropping some high temp clear silicon around this area to lessen the movement and cushion this empty area around the gas tub and this notich in the washer/ring. I am sure I could slap some JB Weld around this area that would completely eliminate the play, but I worry about having disassembly issues if I ever needed to replace anything in this area if I were to use JB Weld.

Any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions?
Thanks for any and all info.

In general, the gas tube fit to the handguard cap (the hole the tube passes through) and the compression of the handguard cap between the FSB and barrel lip prevent the handguard cap from rotating. If either of these parts are loose you'll have rotation.

Ummm....ok. So how do I correct it?

You probably noticed it because yoku put a leverr on your handguard. SIRs do this too, and it annoyed me so much I sold it. I'll get FF RAS next go around.

By tightening the fit between those parts.

**DISCLAIMER: The opinions expressed in the proceeding post may make no sense at all............

I had a similar problem....grab the receiver in one hand, and the barrel at the FSB in the other and twist back and forth. If there's any movement there, you've found the problem....loose barrel / barrel nut. Mine required tightening (along with a couple of other minor adjustments). Now everything is solid. There's plenty of threads in this and the "Build" forums explaining how to remedy this particular malady.

Good luck.

So you're talking about ALL SIRs?

My previous GG&G UFIR/Colt M4 handguard setup had movement, so I'm wondering what you're talking about, because MY SIR's DON'T.

i think all hand guards have this movement. I used to have the same GG&G / vert grip set up. It's just the space where the gas tube is. Not much you can do outside of filling around the tube with that instant plastic bond stuff.

And how the heck is an SIR going to have movement? It attaches to the flat top receiver rail making it probably the most solid system you can buy

I concur with Javelin on this,as my barrel nut was loose and handguards were also!

Tightened Barrel nut and handguards are super tight now!    Bob  [:D]

I had an M900 on my SIR and the plastic would flex, esp at the junction of the rail and the plastic lower piece. The aluminum portion was solid.

I also get slight movement on my SIR lower. But only if i have the side rails off. If you put on the side rails they serve as reinforcement and you wont get any movement.
