Howdy all.  I was wondering if any of y'all had run into this one before.  I have a Bushy lower and a Colt HBAR upper with a RRA B/BC.  I just assembled it a couple days ago, and when I put a mag in it, I had to slap it (yeah, on the floorplate) to get it to seat properly.  If the upper is broken open from the lower, OR the bolt is open, the mag seats normally.  These mags work flawlessly in my SP1 carbine, and I had the HBAR upper on that same carbine lower before I got this Bushy lower with no problem.  The fit between the Bushy lower and the Colt upper appears to be fine.  I haven't had the chance to take it to the range in this configuration yet, so I can't say about function.  The only thing that comes to mind is a mag catch problem of some kind, but if so, it sure isn't obvious.  Anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Mike.

Totally normal!!!!!

Let the carrier break in to the upper and you will be able to insert fully loaded mags with the B/C forward.

Right now the carrier/upper is fresh and due to this the bottom of the carrier is being held down a little lower, causing the tension on the mag.  As the upper raceway wears in, there will be more room for the carrier to rise when the mag is inserted.

Also, unless you plan on prematurely wearing out the charging handle and upper receiver charging handle catch point, your loads should be done with the bolt locked back.  And, left locked back as the mag goes dry, with a new mag inserted, then the bolt catch pressed to charge the weapon.  To many time, I have seen guys run the mag dry, hit the bolt release, then insert a mag and go after the charging handle.  It's a total was of time and not needed.  Also, it shows the rest of the group that you are very green regarding the rifle.

Just to be kind, I will teach you the correct way to load the weapon, and look very cool doing it.

1. Lock the bolt back with the bolt catch, then push the charging handle forward to lock it in place. Place the selector to the safe position.

2. Grab a mag by the bottom/sides, with your thumb pointing towards the front of the rounds. It helps to store the mags in your belt patches this direction so you can pull one out and not have to fumble in the dark having to turn it around.

3. Coming straight up from under the rifle, insert the mag into the mag well while pushing up firmly. Now drop your hand down a few inches and come back up on the base of the mag and give it a single pop with the pad of your hand to make sure it's seated.

4. Right after the pop, come straight up with your left hand and tag the bolt release with the pad of your left hand to charge the weapon.

5. Now reach forward with your left hand and grab the forearm guards.

6. With your left hand holding the forearm guards, come off the pistol grip with your right hand and pop the forward assist twice with the pad of your right hand. Then drop your right hand down to the pistol grip.

Your rifle is charged, and ready to go. The reason that you give the mag a pop is confirm that it is locked, and the reason that you go after the forward assist is to confirm that the bolt is closed and locked.  This way may seem a little over kill, but go into the closet, turn all the lights off and give it a try.  Without being able to see if things are locked, the drill confirms that the rifle is ready to rock and roll, without the use of sight.

Howdy Dano!  Hey, thanks for the info.  BTW - that's the way I load anyway - except for the FA.  However, that makes perfectly good sense to me to do that too.  Since my other AR is an SP1 Carbine without one (which I bought new), I tend to forget about it.  Your explanation also makes sense, as I've only put 250 rounds through the Colt upper/RRA B/BC combo (with the SP1 lower).  Since I couldn't find anything obviously wrong, I was leaning toward/hoping that being the case.  Ya realize that you're >>forcing<< me to go to the range and make more empty brass, dontcha?? [:D]  Dammit Man!! [:D]
Thanks again.  Later,
Mike.
