I have an Oly lower. I installed a Hogue grip and now my safety selector is very mushy in its motion as it reaches the fire position. It seems to be okay when going from fire to safe. I put the A2 grip back on and it seemed to work okay except that the safety selector turns much easier with the A2 than the Hogue. Do I need to clip the spring or drill out a tiny bit of the Hogue grip? I had the Hogue on an RRA lower with no issues. Swapped the RRA safety selector, detent and spring to the Oly and still had the mushiness. Any assistance is greatly appreciated! Drivie |

You have me a little confused. You state that the selector is mushy, and then go on to say that the spring is too tight. Mushy to me means that the spring is too loose, not too tight. If you mean that the spring is too tight due to the Hogue grip, then clipping the spring would be a better solution that trying to deepen the hole. To deepen the hole correctly, you would need a flat end mill bit to get the bottom of the hole flat (90*), verses just using a standard drill bit which has a tapered end. But before you do anything to the spring, I suggest that you pull the detent pin and selector and check them out. On the detent pin, check the tip to make sure that it is still pointy and sharp. On the selector, check the channel to make sure that it is clean and smooth (no casting/machine burs). If both are fine, then clip the spring a few coils to compensate for the shallow grip hole. Thanks for your reply! It seems mushy because there is too much pressure. When selecting the fire position, it gets to about 3/4 of the way there and wants to stop, it doesn't flip easily. It then clicks twice. If I unscrew the Hogue grip and hold it slightly away from the frame of the lower, the selector seems to function better. If I put the A2 grip back on, it functions fine. I tried swapping the safety selector, detent and spring from an RRA lower into the Oly and the results were very similar. I'll have a look at the channel on the selector to see if there are any burrs. I may go ahead and clip the spring back a few coils. Thanks! Drivie |

I think I've figured it out. When I have the Hogue grip on the receiver, it sticks out on the side ever-so-slightly but it's enough to interfere with the movement of the selector when the lever is pointing down (in the fire position). So now I have to determine what to modify in order to fix it. I'm thinking I might be able to file a little metal off of the back of the safety selector or maybe shave some rubber off of the grip. Any suggestions? Thanks! Drivie |

I think I'm going to try to use one of the Rock River Star Safety selectors and see if this makes any difference before modifying anything. I have an Ergo grip and it has an area milled out of it where the safety lever runs over the top. I wish Hogue had done this as well. I will probably modify the grip if all else fails because I think if I take material off of the safety selector, it will be difficult and will take the finish off as well which could allow it to develop corrosion. Thanks for all your help guys! Drivie |
